Located in the heart of Davis, California, Mandro Teahouse offers a refreshing escape into the world of Korean-inspired shaved ice and artisanal tea beverages. This charming tea house specializes in a unique fusion of traditional flavors and modern creativity, providing a sensory delight for tea lovers and dessert enthusiasts alike.
Mandro Teahouse’s star attraction is their delightful Bingsoo, a Korean shaved ice dessert that transcends the typical icy treat. Customers rave about the Mango Bingsoo 芒果雪冰, where layers of finely shaved, fluffy ice melt luxuriously on the tongue, revealing generous chunks of sweet, perfectly ripe mango nestled inside. The texture here is rich and creamy, almost snow-like but denser and more velvety, creating an indulgent experience that feels summery and fresh all at once. Other must-try varieties include the delicate Strawberry Bingsoo and the classic Matcha Red Bean Bingsoo, each crafted with inventive precision that captures the essence of the ingredients beautifully.
For those who crave something beyond dessert, Mandro Teahouse’s tea menu is both thoughtfully curated and distinctively satisfying. The Brown Sugar Ginger Milk Tea offers warming, comforting spices with a perfect hint of sweetness—served with no added sugar—making every sip a soothing experience on cooler days. Fans of fruit-forward drinks will appreciate premium options like the Peach Haven 芝芝桃桃, a refreshing whole peach ice tea crowned with a rich cheese foam, and the vibrant Kumquat Lemon Ice Tea, known for its lively combination of lemon, basil seed, and green tea. These drinks reveal a dedication to authenticity and quality that elevates Mandro’s offerings well above your average tea shop.
The atmosphere at Mandro Teahouse complements its menu excellently. Guests have noted the inviting and relaxing ambiance, enhanced by friendly service that makes every visit feel warm and personal. While the space offers outdoor seating that’s perfect for a leisurely afternoon, the interior buzzes with a quiet energy, drawing both locals and travelers who appreciate a unique culinary adventure. One reviewer even points out the owners’ genuine hospitality as a highlight, amplifying the charm of the experience.
Many customers mention the fleeting nature of Bingsoo as a shared delight—its delicate texture melts rapidly, a reminder to savor each bite mindfully or share it with a friend. The portions are notably generous, with desserts often large enough for two, making Mandro Teahouse not just a place to grab a quick treat but a destination to slow down and relish quality time and flavors.
While nearly all guests come away impressed, some have noted subtle nuances, such as a faint bitterness in the mango Bingsoo that is not immediately identifiable but adds complexity to the palate. These subtle layers of flavor deepen the authenticity and show a willingness to showcase natural ingredient profiles rather than masking them.
In summary, Mandro Teahouse is a must-visit for those passionate about tea culture and innovative desserts. Its marriage of Korean shaved ice artistry with premium tea selections creates an enticing journey of tastes and textures that linger warmly in memory long after the last bite or sip. Whether you are seeking a refreshing escape on a sunny day or a cozy corner to enjoy thoughtfully handcrafted beverages, Mandro’s welcoming vibe and exceptional offerings make it a standout gem in Davis’s culinary scene.
Discovered Korean shaved ice while visiting Davis, CA. Mildly sweet, better than the shaved ice in Hawaii that resemble icy snow cones I had as a kid. The Korean version is like fluffy snow sweetened with condensed milk and fresh fruit. The only downside is that it melts quickly, even in an air conditioned space. Bring a friend to share one so you can finish it before it melts. Highly recommend the mango bingsoo with a side of red bean; the tropical flavor of ripe mango compliments the sweetness of the condensed milk based sweetener. I would give it five smiling pandas!
I see why this place gets so busy, It’s very unique. Never have I had any ice cream like this. The mango is delicious and sweet. Although the bowls of ice cream are expensive, you definitely get what you pay for. It’s definitely enough for two people to enjoy and even have left overs. Would go again, very nice “tourist” destination.
Gave 4 stars for service only because there was a tiny flying insect nearby. Don't let that deter you from going here. I mean, the cashier and owners are so welcoming, the shaved is out of this world, and the atmosphere is so lovely and relaxing. Outdoor seating is available. I never had Korean shaved ice, but it was one of the best things I've ever eaten. Prepared with so much creativity and skill, you will not be disappointed. Gotta try it!!
We got a Mango Bingsoo, passion fruit tea and iced jasmine green tea. Everything was so good! The mango Bingsoo has very sweet and soft mango pieces and more mango hidden in the middle too! The shaved snow is sooooo delicate and fine it truly just melts in your mouth. Super smooth! The passion fruit tea has really fruit pieces in there. It is not only aesthetically pleasing but also so refreshing and tasty! Service is fast. The staff are quite shy. They don’t say much but are so nice, attentive and polite. Decor is so cute. They also have games if you wanna play. There are more I wanna try. I will definitely come back for more!
I enjoyed their mango bingsoo, portion size is big and there were many mango pieces inside! The bingsoo texture is on the dense side, it’s creamy and milky. However there’s a strangely bitter aftertaste that I couldn’t pinpoint the origin after eating it.
I used to live at Adobe, so this place was our go-to spot when craving shaved ice! It's one of the must-stop-by spots whenever I swing by Davis. Being there brings me nostalgic memories. We ordered a large mango bingsoo with some mochi on top, and it was really tasty! I got to know their owners, who are also UCD alumni. The mango was fresh, and there is a side of condensed milk that you can add to the bingsoo if it's not sweet enough. The portion was generous. Highly recommended if you are in the area!
The injeolmi (soybean) and mango bingsoo's are to DIE FOR. The shaved snow is extra fine, and the sweetness is perfectly balanced. They provide evaporated/condensed milk on the side just in case you need any additional sweetness to your bingsoo. Bingsoo is prepared with layers of snow intermingled with layers of mango, soybean, or whatever your order of choice is. Keep in mind, it is an extra $3.00 charge to upgrade the bingsoo serving size to a large. To-go orders are packed carefully with an ice pack to keep the snow from melting. The mango sago was yummy too! The texture was smooth and dense enough to be filling. The teahouse is really busy during the evening, but the atmosphere is lively and welcoming. This is one of my go to places in NorCal for desserts! :D
